About Us
About Us
NorthernLight Eye Foundation is a community-focused non-governmental organization dedicated to improving access to quality eye care for underserved communities across Nigeria.
Based in Abuja, the Foundation works to address avoidable vision loss by bringing eye health services closer to people who may otherwise face significant barriers to accessing specialist care. Our work focuses particularly on low and middle-income communities across Northern Nigeria.
We believe that good vision is essential to health, education, productivity, independence, and quality of life. Yet for many people, conditions that are preventable or treatable continue to affect their ability to learn, work, care for their families, and participate fully in their communities.
Our Work in the Community
NorthernLight Eye Foundation takes eye care beyond the walls of the clinic.
Through community eye camps, institutional partnerships, health education, screening programs, and referrals for treatment, we identify people living with eye conditions and connect them to the care they need.
Our community programs provide services including:
Comprehensive eye screening and basic eye health assessments
Identification and referral of patients requiring other specialist care
Cataract, glaucoma and other sight-restoring surgical interventions through our clinic and other institutional partners
Distribution of essential eye medications
Provision of reading glasses and other vision aids
Eye health education and awareness
Training and capacity building for community health workers
Community-based referrals and follow-up support

Our Vision for the Future
NorthernLight Eye Foundation is building toward a future where a person’s location or income does not determine whether they can access the eye care they need.
We also aim to expand our community partnerships, strengthen local health-worker capacity, and reach more underserved communities across Northern Nigeria.
Our Vision for the Future
Across more than 100 community eye camp sites, bringing eye health services closer to underserved populations.

Our Innovation:
At NorthernLight Eye Foundation, we are developing a community-based approach to eye care built around our “Screen and Restore” model.
The model is designed to close the gap between identifying eye problems and ensuring that patients actually receive the care they need. Through the use of mobile and portable eye-care equipment, our teams can take essential screening services directly into underserved communities, including areas where fixed eye-care facilities may be unavailable or difficult to access.

Reaching the People Who Need Us Most
Our approach is built around communities where access to quality eye care and affordable optical services remains limited.
Through a growing network of outreach camps and partnerships across Northern Nigeria, we work to identify patients who may otherwise remain undiagnosed or untreated. Where further care is required, patients can be referred into appropriate clinical pathways for specialist assessment, surgery, medication, or vision correction.
We are committed to making eye care more accessible, affordable, and connected.

Our Commitment
At NorthernLight Eye Foundation, we are committed to one simple goal: To help more people see better, live better, and participate fully in their communities.
Because when sight is restored, possibilities are restored too.
